Children from kindergarten to third grade were invited to write and illustrate their own stories and enter them in the Thirteenth Annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest. These stories were judged locally and the winners were submitted to the national contest.
The top three authors in each age divivision won a Reading Rainbow prize pack containing a Reading Rainbow backpack and DVD.
