Help Expand WNMU-TV Coverage in Marquette | Broadcast Translator Campaign

Help bring a stronger, more reliable, free over-the-air WNMU-TV signal to more Marquette-area homes.

Many viewers have told us they wish WNMU-TV's free over-the-air signal were stronger in the Marquette area. We heard you—and now we have an opportunity to improve access to WNMU-TV for thousands of additional households.

WNMU-TV has received construction approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to add a new TV translator on Mount Marquette. The translator will rebroadcast WNMU-TV's existing signal, providing a stronger and more reliable free over-the-air signal to areas that have struggled with reception.

We need your help to make it happen.

A Stronger Signal for Marquette

WNMU-TV's main transmitter is located approximately 25 miles southwest of Ely. The surrounding hills and topography create a TV signal "shadow" over the Marquette area, making reliable over-the-air reception difficult or impossible for many households.

The new translator is planned for a site on Mount Marquette, where it will fill this coverage gap by receiving WNMU-TV's existing signal and rebroadcasting it to the surrounding area.

For many households, a small indoor TV antenna may be all that's needed to receive the new signal. No cable, satellite, or streaming subscription is required.

Four WNMU-TV Channels

The translator will carry all four WNMU-TV channels:

13.1 — WNMU-TV PBS
Our primary PBS channel featuring PBS news, documentaries, entertainment, children's programming and more.

13.2 — PBS KIDS
Educational programming designed for young children and families.

13.3 — WNMU-TV PLUS
Additional programming from WNMU-TV and public television.

13.4 — Michigan Learning Channel
Educational programming supporting early literacy, math skills and learning for young viewers. Edited Translator Letter Draft

Help Us Build the Translator

The project is expected to cost approximately $80,000, and WNMU-TV has a limited window to complete construction. We're asking supporters in the Marquette area to help fund this important improvement to our broadcast infrastructure.

Your Gift Can Be Matched!

A generous WNMU-TV donor has committed a matching gift of up to $5,000. That means your donation to the translator project can be doubled dollar for dollar, up to the $5,000 matching-gift limit.

Help Reach More Marquette-Area Homes

A stronger over-the-air signal means more local households can access WNMU-TV's four channels without paying for cable, satellite, or streaming services. Your special gift will help us build the infrastructure needed to extend reliable, free public television to more viewers in the Marquette area.

Every contribution brings us closer to making this expanded coverage a reality.
